Okemo Mountain- The second largest destination resort in Vermont.

All of Pike's Peaks fine rental resort homes are somewhere in the background of this photo, or just around the corner.

Biking and Hiking

In the Summer, you can hike up the ski trails, or find the backside access trail and hike on natural trails all the way to the summit. This will test you.

If you want a real thrill, that won't tax you (other than your brakes) drive your bikes up to the top via Mountain Road, and glide back down the road (its a public road after the snow melts.)

Other Major Ski Areas

Killington - 30 Minutes

For those of you who are feeling a bit more adventurous, you might want to travel to one of the other major ski areas that are within striking range.  Killington is perhaps the most highly touted.  I would suggest that you go to Killington during mid-week, rather then weekends, when there is a bit more elbowroom, particularly after a heavy snow.  Most people advise not going to Killington after it rains because their ability to recover from rainfall is no where near what Okemo's is.

Stratton Mountain

Forty Minutes south, Route 100. Nice slopes.  Great base village with shops.

Ski Rental Equipment

Dunnett’s Ski Shop  228-7547 (Highly Recommended!)

Skis and boots can be rented at the mountain.  But you should be aware of and patronize George Dunnett's Ski Shop on West Hill Road, for ALL your skiing equipment and maintenance needs. You can walk to the shop from OkemoTherapy, White House and Hennessy House.

I have had the happy experience of referring people to George Dunnett.  He and his wife, and their staff are examples of what makes Vermont Skiing great.. caring individuals who know the Mountain, the sport, the equipment and don't try to sell you anything you don't need.

Dunnett's ski shop is located on your left as you are heading along Main St. (route 103) Strictly Rentals to the Okemo Access road.  Take the slow right hand turn and look left and behind the Totem Pole Ski Shop.

George's operation is a little bit smaller and a lot more personal than the others.  He will take the extra time to make sure that you get exactly what you need.

Area Restaurants

Harry’s Café - 802-259-2996 (Very Highly Recommended!)

The Loft - Okemo Mountain Access Road

Tacos Tacos

This is a new Mexican restaurant in the brightly colored shopping center opposite the Grand Union.  Some of my tenants say the food is great.

Archie’s Steak House

As you are heading north from our homes, across from main road heading to Okemo Mountain Resort, you will find Archie’s across the street in the shopping plaza.  It’s highly recommended for their 14 oz . NY Strip steaks.

Cappuccino’s

Cozy location on Depot Street.  They make a nice cappuccino and have a delightful menu.

The semi- Secret Swimming holes of Vermont

Butter Milk Falls

Buttermilk Falls is easy.

Buttermilk Falls: Make a right 0n Route 103 north (main st. out of town) across from Jackson Gore and follow the road to the end. It dead ends and there are 3 pathways to the falls on your right. Sometimes this is a very dirty place filled with locals, But if you go during the day it is not too bad for kids.

Reading Swimming Hole

Reading Swimming hole: Rt. 106 to the Reading store on your left. Make the left just prior to the store, Plymouth Kingdom Rd, may not be marked that.
1st left past the store to the softball fields. Parking is just past the fields to the left and you walk down a path to the water. This is very shallow water great for kids.

20 Ft. hole in Reading

20 Ft. hole in Reading: this is an awesome place, but hard to get down to with a new born unless he is in a front pack. You need both hands. This is on your left on the Plymouth Kingdom Rd. across from a white house with a deck on the front.
