The River House Tour

Welcome to the River House.

Although it may be difficult to tell these days, the current building suffered a serious fire in the late 1980's. We bought it a year and a half after the fire, and converted into a a full featured mountain resort. The River House is our favorite rental in the Green Mountains.

That's the Black River running below, and Okemo Mountain in the background after a nice snow storm.

The entrance is on the left side of the building as you face it from Depot Street.

In you go, and then up the stairs to the cathedral ceilinged living room

The Kitchen and Dining area are all here, combined in one big Great Room, or one Great big Room, depending on your point of view.

The Master Bedroom

On this floor the River House has a great master bedroom with a queen sized bed, it's own fireplace and direct access to the Master Bathroom. A lazy overhead fan circulates the air, and the finished wood floors relect the fire's glow.

If you need the additional bedding there is a fold down futon couch in this room too.

Oh and before we gorget it, out on the deck..

Back down to the Second Floor we find the Second Master bedroom and the Sports Bar!

The Sports Bar

If you go through the door to the right of the staircase, you will find the New Sports Bar with a pool table made with barn wood.

That's right, a pool table, a bar, a kitchenette, a firepace and four, count em, four, TV's for those sport events, the playoffs and the Super Bowl Party of your life.

A Barnwood Pool Table!!!!

The fireplace here, as well as the one in the living room and the master bedroom, which is to your far right, is for your pleasure. Please use the screens and glass doors. Be careful. Two Fires were enough.

Lower Bedrooms

There are three bedrooms on the lowest floor, two with full size platform beds and one with two sets of bunk beds.

Whirlpool bathtubs:

The River House has a whirlpool bathtubs in its upper bathroom and the bathroom off the sports bar.

Sleeping loft

There is a full sized futon on the sleeping loft in the great room, and best of luck trying to keep the kids from staying up there in their "fort."

Washer/Dryer:

There is a propane fired washer and dryer on the ground floor.

Firewood:

Firewood is stored on the porch out the door from the Sports Bar area and stacked in the garage.

The Futon Couches:

The futon couches are quite simple to operate. In order to drop them, go around back. You will notice two wooden round plugs that are inserted near the hinge area. Pulling both of these out will enable you to drop the back on the couches. The one couch in the master bedroom on the upper floor simply unfolds.

On the Ski Shuttle Route:

The weekend and holiday ski shuttle which goes directly to Okemo passes in front of the house on Depot Street. Technically, the stop point is across the bridge down near Main St. opposite the Mill property. You will notice that when the shuttle is running, tend to congregate in that area to get picked up by the shuttle. The shuttle operators have been known to stop for people directly in front of the River house and are more than willing to drop you off there at the end of the day. You will find that they and most of the people who work at the Okemo Mountain Resort are extremely helpful and very friendly.
